The City striker picked up an ankle injury in the second string's 5-1 home defeat against the Pilgrims earlier this week.
"John Akinde went over on his ankle which is disappointing for him and for us." manager Gary Johnson told the club's official website.
"We are letting the swelling go down before we assess it, but suspect it will be three or four weeks."
