Basso wins another award

The winner of the PFA 2UP Player of the Month Award for the Championship League was announced today. The winner was Adriano Basso of Bristol City.

Basso was recognised by football fans across the country, who voted on givemefootball.com and, for the first time, via text, for the month's best players across each League.

The Brazilian keeper was initially signed by the Robins in October 2005 as back-up to number one of the time Steve Phillips, but he quickly made a first team place his own and has been a regular virtually ever since.

The former Woking shot-stopper had a three-month trial with Premier League giants Arsenal before he was snapped up by manager Gary Johnson whose decision to take a chance on Basso has certainly paid dividends, and then some.

The Award, which has been running for 7 years, receives over 30,000 votes a month. 2UP, the new sponsors of the Award, have now added text voting to the mix so people can vote from the football ground as well as online after a game.

One lucky winner who voted for Basso will be chosen to come to a Bristol City game and present the trophy to the player. The winner will be chosen at random and will be announced later in the month.
