Burnley Readying Swap Deal For Bristol City's Josh Brownhill

Burnley are open to a swap deal involving Nahki Wells as they step up their efforts to sign Bristol City captain Josh Brownhill,

The 24-year-old has impressed with his performances from midfield for the Robins, bagging five goals and two assists this season - and Premier League clubs have started to take notice.

Brownhill has been a target for the Clarets throughout the transfer window, and both sides are now discussing a possible swap deal that could see on-loan QPR striker Wells move to Ashton Gate, according to TEAMtalk.

However, Burnley are not the only side reportedly interested in the former Preston midfielder. Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Southampton and even high-flying Leicester have shown interest in Bristol City's skipper, but no deal has been struck.

Wells could be the icing on the cake for Bristol City, however, who will want extra firepower as they go in search of a play-off spot. During his loan spell with fellow Championship side QPR, the Bermudan striker has bagged 13 goals in 26 league games this season.

That haul leaves Wells fourth in the goalscoring charts above any Bristol City player. The Robins' top scorers are Famara Diédhiou and Andreas Weimann, who have both scored a total of nine league goals this campaign.

The deal would not be a straight swap. Burnley would offer Wells plus an extra £3m in cash on top to sweeten the deal. If signed, Brownhill would provide competition to the likes of Jack Cork, Ashley Westwood and Jeff Hendrick in the centre of midfield.

This could be deal to suit both sides. Though Bristol City do not want to lose their captain, Brownhill has a release clause in his contract which will kick in at the end of the season. If they agreed to the swap deal, they would get a nice cash sum and more firepower in attack which would help their push for the pay-offs.

Burnley need more central midfielders in order to push for the best possible finish in the Premier League possible, and Brownhill is one that can both provide and score goals from midfielder.
