Coach backs Johnson shake-up

BRISTOL City coach Keith Millen has backed manager Gary Johnson's decision to make changes for tonight's game against Watford.

Johnson said yesterday that he planned to make changes after the 4-2 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday with the possibility of Jamie McAllister, Louis Carey, John Akinde and Lee Trundle all being introduced. Although it was not confirmed, sources suggest that Johnson may change to a more solid 4-4-2 formation as the home side look for a victory to put them back in the top ten.

Whatever changes he makes, Gary Johnson has the full support of coach Keith Millen who feels the changes are necessary. He told teamtalk.com,

"Gary has already said there will be changes.

It is important that we get a reaction after the performance against Crystal Palace, and also because our home form hasn't been what we want it to be so far this season.

"The good thing is that we have got a full squad to pick from. We did against Palace but we stuck with the same team that performed well against Nottingham Forest.

"We haven't performed against Palace so this gives us the chance and the option to bring some players in."

Millen confirmed that if any tactical changes are made, it will be so City can create more opportunities going forward. He continued,

"We'll be taking the game to Watford. We're at home, we have to bounce back and we've got to win the game. We need to score goals and, if that means playing two or three up front, then that's what we'll do.

"It doesn't matter how many strikers you play, so long as you are going forward. If you pass the ball sideways and backwards, then the opposition can shut you down and things become difficult.

"It's about creating chances and then taking them."
