PORTSMOUTH and England striker Jermain Defoe believes Portsmouth will be 'well up' for the start of their trophy defence in January.

The forward, who scored in his side's 3-2 win over Blackburn yesterday afternoon, is hoping to help Tony Adams' side emulate his former boss Harry Redknapp's team of 2008 which lifted the cup after a 1-0 victory over Cardiff at Wembley.

The south coast side were drawn out of the hat first, followed by Bristol City, pairing Gary Johnson's Robins with a Premier League side for the third year in succession.

Defoe believes the confidence of last season's cup victory will give them a great boost coming into the third round, he said,

"No disrespect to Bristol City but we're at home and we've got fantastic fans. It's the FA Cup and Bristol will be up for it, but I'm really looking forward to it."
