BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson paid deserved praise to his new signing Nicky Maynard after the striker netted a hat trick in his debut against Royal Antwetp.

The clubs record signing enjoyed a stunning debut scoring three goals and Johnson praised the 21-year-old for his first impression,

"They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression - it's a saying I like. It was a great first game for Nicky. It showed exactly what he is, he's that player in the box who's going to be in finishing positions."

"He can't do anymore than he did. It sounds simple to get someone who can be on the end of a move but it is those players who you pay the money for."

Speaking to the official website Maynard said: "It was a tough game against top opponents and I'm glad to have scored. Debuts can always be difficult but I'm glad to get it out of the way and we can now focus on the season."
