"It is time I took a fresh approach to my involvement in Bristol City."

I strongly believe this will benefit the club and ultimately allow it to move to being self sufficient

Lansdown continued: "As I step down from the role of chairman of the board of Bristol City Holdings, my ties to the football club remain unbreakable.

"I remain committed, as the major shareholder, to supporting the club financially.

"I am very excited at the prospect of working with the board to achieve the vision of Bristol City playing at the highest level in the best possible surroundings.

"It has not been an easy decision to relinquish these positions and you can rest assured it has not been taken lightly or quickly.

"However, I strongly believe this will benefit the club and ultimately allow it to move to being self sufficient."

Lansdown will officially step down on 31 May with Sextone stepping up and Guy Price, current business development director, replacing Sextone as CEO.

"I am delighted that Colin has accepted the role of chairman. He has been with the club for ten years and shown his passion for it," added Lansdown.

"Colin's experience will be invaluable to Guy Price, our new chief executive.

"In his two years with us Guy has shown enthusiasm in abundance, determination to succeed and the ability to lead others."

Sextone added: "As a Bristolian, a Bedminster-boy, it's a remarkable honour. I'm proud to be given this chance. It's a new challenge for me and one I relish."
