The 21-year-old appeared for Cheltenham in Saturday's friendly against Hereford, and will now remain at Whaddon Road until early September.

Also joining Ward's squad is former West Brom trainee Tommy Manship, 20, who has signed non-contract forms.

Meanwhile, defender Shane Duff needs medical clearance before he can play on Saturday after a head injury.

Duff was involved in a clash of heads with central defensive partner Michael Wylde during Saturday's friendly against Hereford.

Wylde suffered a double displaced fracture of the lower jaw, and is out for around 10 weeks.

Duff was also taken to hospital and was diagnosed with mild concussion, but there is no time restriction on his playing again because he did not lose consciousness.

However, he will visit the doctor again before being cleared to play in Saturday's League One opener against Gillingham.
