The Owls were keen on signing the 33-year-old City striker who will be out of contract at Ashton Gate this summer and therefore available on a free transfer should he decide to leave Ashton Gate.
However, Owls boss Brian Laws has admitted that his club could not compete with other Championship side's on Adebola's wage demands.
