JOHN Akinde is determined to prove make an impact after signing for Bristol City from Blue Square Premier League side Ebbsfleet United.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a three year contract this afternoon and will meet some of his new team mates when he meets up with the reserves for their game against Southampton tonight.

In his first interview as a City player, Akinde told supporters he was 'delighted' to sign for such a 'big' club and the striker insists he can cope with the demands of playing at a higher level.

He told the official website: "It's a massive jump, but I'm willing to work hard and get to grips with it pretty quickly. It's a dream because only a few years ago I was watching players playing in the Championship and now I'm part of a Champpionship club."

The South African born striker also insists that he is ready for the riggors of playing for City,

"I've been here for a few days and I've been doing lots of work with the fitness team. The manager says I have to get my body prepared for the Championship training and matches and hopefully it won't take too long."
