CITY striker John Akinde is confident about opening his account for his new club.

Akinde seems up for the challenge of playing in the Championship and just hours after signing he gave supporters a defiant message that he is ready to score goals in a Bristol City shirt, having been shown an example of how to make a name for yourself by Nicky Maynard.

The former 'Fleet striker is confident that he can make the step up from Blue Square Premiership to Championship and insists that scoring goals is all he is aiming to do - when he breaks into the first team.

He told the official website: "Bristol City is a very big club and there is a good set-up here. The players are quality and work hard with a fast tempo. I just wanted to become part of the club.

"My aim is to break into the first team as quickly as possible, hopefully this season, and try and establish myself. I'll always work hard and hopefully score some goals."
