Akinde delighted with debut goal

IT may not have been a dream debut in terms of result for John Akinde, but the 18-year-old striker was 'very pleased' to be able to score on his debut.


Akinde joined from Ebbsfleet on the final day of the transfer window and had only appeared for the reserves while he tried to regain his fitness following injury.

He finall had his chance to make his long awaited debut and coming off the bench to replace Nicky Maynard he tapped home a cross to get his side back into the game. The tall powerful striker is thought highly of by Gary Johnson who paid £140,000 for him from the Blue Square Conference and the former 'Fleet player said he was not only happy to score, but finally pull on the shirt of Bristol City,

"I wanted to come on and make an impact and that's what I did. I couldn't have asked for a better start than that,"
he told the Kent Messenger.

Looking to the next game against Sheffield United Akinde said he hopes to be involved though didn't guarentee the same impact if he was,

"I'm just pleased to have had a chance and done well. Now it's up to the manager to decide whether I stay in the squad."

City's manager Gary Johnson said he was 'delighted' for Akinde and although he didn't expect him to have an instant impact, wasn't 'suprised' that he did.
