SHEFFIELD United manager Kevin Blackwell was delighted with the battling performances his side displayed last night and now believes they are ready to restart their bid to return to the Premiership - starting against Bristol City on Saturday.

United won a Yorkshire deby against Doncaster last night and in the process bounced back from a 6-0 trouncing by Arsenal in the Carling Cup and poor results in the Championship against Norwich and Coventry. The next visitors to Bramall Lane will be Bristol City who themselves showed character to fight back from 2-0 down last night.

The Blades manager now hopes his side have 'turned the corner' and recovered significantly from a losing streak of five games in a row. He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I know this team has character.

"The last 15 days the lads have been out of character, but they've responded well in the last two games.

"We will train and be ready to face Bristol City on Saturday."
