BRISTOL City's next game may not be in action for another ten days but they will be facing an extremely ambitious Cardiff City side with ambitions to be in the Premier League next season.

That's the feeling of optimism around the club from chairman Peter Ridsdale who talked up his side's chances of making the Premiership should their prove their credentials against one of the Championship favourites in a week's time.

While Bristol City were busy strengthening their squad with the signing of John Akinde, Cardiff were trying to hold onto several of their brightest assets and managed to prevent Joe Ledley from joining Stoke City, despite a £6m deal being on offer from the Potterers.

Ridsdale spoke at length this morning about the deadline day call from his side to keep Ledley and believes it shows their ambition to be a top-flight club next season.

He told the Western Mail: "I spoke to Joe Ledley at length on Monday and assured him he will play in the Premiership."

The Cardiff chaiman is eager to build on last season when the Welsh side just missed out on the playoffs and were beaten in the FA Cup final,

"Joe is still only 21 years old and we are working hard with our manager, Dave Jones, to build a squad to take this club to the top level. Joe is an integral part of those plans and now we must do everything possible to make sure he is able to play in the Premiership for Cardiff City."
