Brentford v City. Match preview

Goalkeeper Stephen Henderson could be handed his full Bristol City debut in the Carling Cup first-round tie against Brentford.

First choice Adriano Basso is nursing a rib injury following a collision with QPR striker Dexter Blackstock in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Ashton Gate, where summer signing Henderson made his first appearance for the club as a half-time replacement for the Brazilian.

Basso's injury could also see Chris Weale recalled from Hereford less than a week after joining the League Two club on loan.

Robins manager Gary Johnson must decide whether defender Tamas Vasko keeps his place in the starting line-up at Griffin Park after an indifferent debut at the weekend.

The big Hungarian was substituted at half-time against Rangers for Liam Fontaine and Johnson said: "It was a tactical decision. Tamas didn't quite have his timing and I thought he was being caught out."

Jamie McCombe could be given the chance to improve his fitness levels if the defender is included in the squad after missing most of pre-season with shin problems. Forward Ivan Sproule serves the second game of a four-match suspension.

Brentford welcome back defender Karleigh Osborne for Tuesday's match.

The young defender sat out Saturday's League Two season opener against Mansfield due to suspension, but he has now completed the ban and could return to Terry Butcher's starting line-up for the first-round clash against the Robins.

Midfielder Glenn Poole took a slight knock towards the end of the 1-1 draw with the Stags, but it is unlikely to be severe enough to keep him on the sidelines for the Griffin Park encounter.

Bees boss Butcher is boosted further by the news that on-loan quintet Ben Hamer, Adrian Pettigrew, Grant Basey, Sammy Moore and Ben Starosta have all been cleared to play by their respective clubs.

Hamer is therefore likely to continue in goal as Simon Brown works his way back to full fitness, but forward Lee Thorpe remains unavailable through suspension.
