City boss aiming high

BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson says there is no reason why his side cannot finish in the Championship top six once again.

The topsy-turvey Championship season continued this weekend as City claimed a fine away victory on the south coast against Southampton, pushing themselves back into the top ten.

A defeat to Reading last week had seen Bristol City's hopes of a place in the top six dwindle with the club trailing the likes of Birmingham, Wolves and Reading at the top of the league. Twelve months ago, City were making great progress, sitting second behind Watford coming into the crammed Christmas schedule, something Johnson hopes his side can emulate this year,

"My aim is to be in the top six by Christmas and then we will know which other teams we are competing with," he told the BBC,

"I don't see any reason why this can't happen."

As well as the three title favourites, City are competing against the likes of Sheffield United, Burnley, Cardiff and QPR for a place inside the top six, something the City manager thinks is perfectly attainable,

"It is a much harder league this year but our dream is to play in the Premier League. We came agonisingly close last season and hopefully this year we can go just as close if not closer.

"It is a tight division and you only need to win a couple of games to be right up there so we need to go on a good run."
