City boss makes penalty claim

BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson was left rueing a refereeing decision by Rob Styles last night as he saw his side settle for a second consecutive 0-0 draw.

Sheffield United left Ashton Gate with a point last night as the sides played for the second time in the space of a month. While United thrashed Bristol City at Bramall Lane, last night's game was a closer affair as both sides were made to settle for a share of the spoils, although Bristol City manager Gary Johnson felt his side could have won the game,

"Perhaps 2-2 would have been a fairer reflection because we had a couple of great chances and so did they," he told the BBC in a post-match interview.

In his comments to the official website, Johnson felt his side missed their fair share of oppertunites, the best of which fell to Dele Adebola although Lee Trundle also came close in the second half.

The referee chose to turn down City's appeals for a penalty when Ugo Ehiogu appeared to handle in the area and the City manager was upset that his team were denied what he felt was a 'clear' penalty.

He said: "Stern John was adamant it was a penalty.

"He was closest to the incident. But my only complaints about referees are made under my breath."
