CITY supporters discovered yesterday that a new striker will be joining them before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

Ebbsfleet United forward John Akinde was in the stands watching his new team mates play yesterday and although a deal has yet to be officialy completed, City are expected to announce his signing tomorrow morning. Gary Johnson's side had been linked with a move for James Scowcroft of Crystal Palace but the City boss chose instead to sign the young striker for a fee which is expected to be around £150,000.

The City gaffer announced after the 1-1 draw that the club were poised to sign Akinde from the Blue Square Premiership and speaking to the official website he revealed the reasons behind his choice,

"He's very quick, he's young and strong in getting in behind. We haven't brough him her for a year of 18 months time, he is a prospect for now."

He went on to say,

"I just felt we needed five strikers and he gives me that fifth striker althought i's not necessarily in that order. He is relativelt inexperience however and he hasn't had a proper pre-season, so we'll have to work with him for a little bit to ensure he's strong and fit enough to take part in training."

Johnson also told supporters that Akinde was already getting accustomed to life at Ashton Gate, he said: "We'll see him soon enough and I think the fans will see what we saw in him.

"Everything has already been agreed, we're just waiting for Monday to sort out the administrative side of things. He loves it her and he's already had four sessions with our fitness team."
