BRISTOL City have announced this afternoon that they called off a deal to send Chris Weale to Rotherham on loan.

The goalkeeper who started the season as first choice in the absense of Adriano Basso has started five times this season and made two substitue appearances will be spending more time on the bench after Gary Johnson called off a loan move to Rotherham.

The Millers of League Two had wanted to sign the keeper as backup for Andy Warrington but due to 'transfer regulations' the deal was aborted. Gary Johnson explained to supporters,

"It would have been a good move for everyone involved."

"The transfer regulations say we wouldn't be able to recall Chris if either Adriano Basso or Stephen Henderson suffered an injury, leaving us short of a keeper.

"The only way we would have been able to recall Chris is if both Adriano and Stephen were injured, which still leaves us with only Chris once recalled.

"It's a sad situation and stops people from earning a living."

Johnson said he was more than willing to help Rotherham out, but did not want to jepordise his own team's fortunes,

"It's a sad situation and stops people from earning a living.

"It would have been a good move for Chris to get some games and Rotherham are doing really well.

"They're only in the bottom half because of their points deduction."
