City need greater goal threat

BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson has continued his offensive about his team's attacking options by insisting saying 'we need more goals'.

City have failed to score in their last two games and slipped outside the playoff zone following a 0-0 draw with Sheffield United. In pre-season the City boss added to his attacking options by signing John Akinde and Nicky Maynard, and last week signed Stern John on a three month loan from Southampton.

Despite their efforts goals have been hard to come by and the City boss has said that he feels his side can mount a promotion challenge starting with a victory over Reading, providing they begin finding the back on the net on a regular basis.

Each of the current sides who occupy the top six places have great attacking options as City have noticed having been beaten by Wolves, Birmingham and Sheffield United, and with Kevin Doyle of Reading looking to continue his great scoring streak at Ashton Gate this weekend, Johnson is hoping that some of his players step forward and start scoring.

He told the Bristol Evening Post:

"We have some good strikers here and they've all been given a chance. However, one or two of them need to start getting on the score-sheet. I don't care whether it's a rebound from close range, a 40-yard screamer or one that goes in off their ear hole - so long as they're scoring.

He warned,

"If one or two of them can start scoring goals, then they'll be the ones that stay in the side for a little while."
