BIG-MATCH FACTS

BRISTOL CITY took full advantage of Coventry's woes and beat the Championship side 0-2 at the Ricoh Arena in a third round replay with goals either side of half-time from Scott Murray and Enoch Showunmi. It was the final straw for Sky Blues manager Micky Adams, who was sacked the following day. Now Gary Johnson's side look to go one better, and knock out Premiership opposition in Gareth Southgate's Middlesbrough.

The promotion seeking League One club have won their last four in League and Cup and are undefeated in 17. They've qualified for the fourth round for the first time since 2000-01, when they went on to reach the last 16 for the only occasion in the last 12 seasons. Both City and Middlesbrough were second tier clubs when they were drawn together in the FA Cup for the only previous occurrence 39 years ago. City, who had knocked out Bristol Rovers in the third round that year, drew the fourth round tie 1-1 at Ayresome Park and won the replay 2-1 on 20 February 1968 with goals from Jack Connor and John Galley. They then lost to Leeds in the fifth round.

The west country club are hoping to do to the Teessiders what they did to Liverpool in 1994. They drew 1-1 with the Premiership club at Ashton Gate in the restaging of a third round tie, after the original match was abandoned in the 65th minute due to a floodlight failure, with the score also at 1-1. The replay at Anfield on 25 January 1994, saw City winning 1-0 through a Brian Tinnion goal. It was the last time the Robins eliminated top flight opposition.

MIDDLESBROUGH had a far from smooth passage into the fourth round, having been held to a 1-1 draw by improving Championship strugglers Hull at the KC Stadium. The Premiership club took a 3-0 lead in the replay, but had to survive a stunning fightback by Hull and only went through 4-3, courtesy of Mark Viduka's second goal of the game.

The Riversiders are yet to lose in 2007. They travel to the west country on a five-match unbeaten streak. They've scored 12 goals in winning the last three League and Cup games. Middlesbrough have climbed into a comfortable mid-table position and lie 35 places higher than Bristol City on the League ladder. 'Boro did the 'double' over City when they last locked horns at second League level in 1994-95.

The north east club graced the FA Cup final for the one and only time a decade ago. They were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea to the quickest goal in a Wembley final from Robert Di Matteo after 43 seconds. The Teessiders' best since then was last season's appearance in the semi-final for the second time in five years. They've not been dismissed by lower division opposition since Second Division (third tier) Wrexham knocked them out 2-1 in a third round tie at the Racecourse Ground on 11 December 1999.
