COVENTRY City manager Chris Coleman, banished from the dugout yesterday branded the refereeing performance of Phil Dowd 'abysmal' after seeing his side defeated 3-0 by Bristol City.

The former Fulham boss was enraged by several incidents in the game claiming the referee failed to award a blatent penalty in the first half and gave Bristol City 'every' 50/50 decision.

The Coventry manager is expected to be disciplined by the FA for his behaviour but said: "I'll take whatever punishment comes to me for these comments but I thought the referee had a terrible first half."

"He has refereed games before and been fine so I can't call him a homer but his performance today was abysmal."
