Elliott is yet to appear for City in competetive action but played twice in pre-season is expected to return in the middle of September after proving his fitness.
City manager Gary Johnson told the official website: "I think he's two weeks away from a return."
"Once he gets over the problem it will be about getting his touch and fitness back. It will be like having a new signing when he returns but he needs games to prove he is fit first."
