BRISTOL City midfielder Marvin Elliott is expected to miss the clubs season opener against Blackpool after failing to recover fully from a knee injury.

Last season's young player of the year missed the clubs 4-0 win over Antwerp and Gary Johnson described the 23-year-olds chances of playing as 'less than 50%'. Johnson told the official website,

"The knee his causing him problems and we're having to keep a close eye on ot. We're hoping that his scan shows nothing serious."

Elliot's injury could mean a place in the team for Cole Skuse who Johnson this morning challenge to 'step up to the mantle' in 2008/09. He said: "Cole played well against Antwetp. He's got the same legs as Marvin and its a season where Cole has to prove himself."

Refusing to be drawn on whether the player will definately start Johnson said: "Cole may get his chance nice and early. He didn't get his chance last season but this is his chance to establish himself."

Bristol could also be without Jordan Walker this weekend who suffered a leg problem in training and Scott Murray is definately out with a broken wrist.
