Elliott braced for first team battle

RETURNING from injury, Marvin Elliott has targeted an immediate return to the first team but understands it will not be easy the way the team is playing.

The City midfielder returned to action on Saturday in a 4-1 victory against Doncaster and impressed his manager who yesterday praised his impact from the bench. Despite his determination to make a consistent contribution to City's cause between now and the end of the season, Elliott accepts that it might not be so easy for him to get his place back. He told the official website: "I know it's going to be hard for me to get back in the side from the start."

Last season's young player of the year praised those who had taken advantage of his injury saying,

"Lee Johnson and Cole Skuse have started the season and done very well.

"But I believe I can get back in the side and I'll be working very hard every day to get back in."

Elliott played a brief part in the club's pre-season programme but missed the first five games of the season with knee trouble. He returned to play 90 minutes for the reserves last Monday and is hoping to be involved against Wolves on Saturday. He continued: "I was really pleased with the reception I got at half-time when I came on. The fans have been quality to me and I'd like to thank them for that."

Whether he starts on the pitch, or on the bench at Wolves on Saturday, Marvin's just pleased to be invovled again.

"It's not just the not playing, it was the being injured as well," he said. "But I sitting out and having to watch training and matches.

"It's boring more than anything, sitting there getting treatment as the lads go out and train. And watching games in the stands isn't me.

"I'm just glad I'm 100 per cent fit again now. I've got no aches or pains and I'm fit and raring to go."
