Elliott pleased with return

YOUNG player of the year Marvin Elliott spoke of his delight at being part of the team again after coming through a friendly last night.

The midfielder played 75 minutes of last night's 6-0 win over Bournmouth after returning from a knee injury which cut his pre season short. Elliott made just two appearances in pre-season and is hoping that getting more football behind him will stand him in good stead for a return to the first team in the near future.

Speaking to the official website, he said: "The knee is fine now and I'm just delighted to be back playing again.

"It was a good team performance last night with lots of goals, but crucially for me I got minutes on the pitch. I've been training for the last two weeks now; played in a practice match at the training ground and now the game yesterday evening so I think I'm making progress."

On a return to first team action he commented: "I probably need some more minutes under my belt yet - I just have to keep playing and staying fit. It's been hard sitting out, I can't stand watching and now my goal is to challenge for the first team again.

"I'd love to be back playing now but I've got to be sensible and not rush things. I don't know when I'll return to the first team, you'd have to ask the gaffer."
