'Elliott return a bonus'

CITY manager Gary Johnson was delighted with the way Marvin Elliott re-introduced himself to the Bristol City supporters as he made his return at Ashton Gate yesterday.

Elliott has had an up and down summer, first helping City into the playoff final before claiming the club's young player of the season award. Since then Elliott has been struggling with injury and was unable to complete the club's pre-season program and has spent the last few months recovering from a persistant knee injury which has prevented him making a league appearance this season.

The City manager refused to rush Elliott back in the team, despite knowing the impact he would have. Johnson said he was 'delighted' to be able to bring Elliott back into the team. He told teamtalk.com: "Marvin Elliott gives great energy to our side.

"It's great to have him back and it didn't take him long to make an impact.

"We needed that first goal but overall I thought we played very well. We have worked hard on opening up teams this week and we created a lot of chances.
