Bristol football rivals City and Rovers have become ensnared in a row over the scheduling of their respective FA Cup second round ties.Although both clubs have been handed home draws, Avon and Somerset Constabulary have put a block on them staging games on the same day.

Both are eager to play on Saturday, December 2 and neither appears willing to budge. The matter has been passed to the Football Association, whose Competitions Committee will now arbitrate.

An unwritten agreement exists between the clubs in the event of a fixture clash and the rivals have previously taken it in turns to choose when to play games.

But officials at Ashton Gate and the Memorial Stadium are unable to agree on who has first pick on this occasion and supporters are still waiting to discover exactly when ties between City and Gillingham and Rovers and Bournemouth will be played.
