Gary speaks ahead of the new season

"A sell-out crowd can aspire the players a lot. To have around 18,000 people being active and positive in their support for you is, as the old cliche goes, an extra man," he told the official website.

"If that 18,000 crowd can get behind the lads whatever happens then we will become a very strong Championship club. We have to become a Championship club on and off the field.

"I'd love to see the crowd stay behind the eleven players on the pitch, even if they aren't one of your favourites, for the 90 minutes-plus. Then we'll be able to get the best out of them and that's the important part our supporters can play.

"Please cheer the good things the players do but also encourage them through mistakes, because they will make mistakes over the course of the season.

"That is such a weapon because when players know they will have people on their backs for making a mistake they are more likely to make a few more.

"Enjoy the game and please get behind the team for the 90-odd minutes."
