Holland aware of former Railwaymen

AHEAD of tonight's Carling Cup tie, Crewe manager Steve Holland has played down the significance of former Crewe players Nicky Maynard and Dele Adebola returning to Gresty Road.

Both players played under Director of Football Dario Gradi during his length spell as the manager at Crewe, but having taken over from the long serving manager, Steve Holland is well aware of the talent and ability of the two players who could make their returns tonight.

Holland worked with Maynard at a very young age but insists that his defence will be well aware of his precision finishing. He told Crewe's official website: " The return of Nicky and Dele gives tonight's fixture an extra insentive, hopefully we can keep them as far away from our box as possible come kick-off!

"We know Nicky well because he was playing in our team not that long ago, our defenders should know about him and how dangerous he can be. He likes to run in behind and use his pace and we know what a good finisher he is."

Dele Adebola makes his return to Gresty Road ater a great performance at the weekend against another of his former side's Coventry City. Holland said: "Dele's had to adjust his game the older he's got because he's not as mobile as he used to be, he offers a real physical presence up there.

"He has improved in the air and is a very good target man with a lot of experience."
