It's Boro Again!

In a repeat of last seasons epic ecounter in the 4th round City will play Middlesbrough but this time in the 3rd round. The tie will be played on the weekend of 5th/6th January.

If last years tie is anything to go by then the TV companies would do well to screen the match live. City went two nil down at Ashton Gate before a goal by Richard Keogh and Scott Murray's fantastic half volley sent the tie into a replay at The Riverside. David Noble gave City an early lead, the first time Gary Johnson had used him in the hole behind the striker. Middlesbrough came storming back, and a header from Mark Viduka took the te into extra time.

Yakuba had a penalty saved by Chris Weale before seemingly winning the tie with a goal in the 12 minute of extra time. City had other ideas and Jamie McCombe scored with just three minutes left to force a penalty shoot out. Yakubu missed yet again from the spot, but Phil Jevons and Craig Woodman also missed to see Middlesbrough through. What a scare they had been given by the League One promotion contenders.

How quickly things change in football. Yakuba and Viduka have moved on from Middlesbrough and for Bristol City goal scorers Keogh and Murray are no longer first team regulars. Craig Woodman has left the club and Phil Jevons has no chance of making ammends for his penalty miss having been cup-tied in scoring twice for Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

A good draw for Bristol City and surely potential for another sell out at Ashton Gate?
