BRISTOL City's new loan signing Stern John has stated his intent to earn an extended stay at his new club after settling in 'perfectly'.

John, who joined from Southampton on Friday, expressed his intention to remain at Ashton Gate for the long-term and stated that he has 'no intention' of returning to St Mary's when his loan spell expires in January.

The Trinidadian striker is out of contract at the end of the season and told the Bristol Evening Post that he would like to remain with Bristol City for as long as possible,

"Since the end of last season, there have been big problems at Southampton," he said,

"The chairman has told us he needs to move out the senior players and I'm looking for a new challenge."

The Saints currently sit in the relegation zone on twelve points while the side he joined are enjoying life in the Championship, currently just inside the playoffs.

The 31-year-old made his debut on Saturday and said his reasons for coming to Bristol City are varied but mostly because he has joined a club of 'great quality'. He said,

"That's why I came here and it wasn't a difficult decision to make. I want to show the fans and the manager what I can do."
