Johnson backs Weale after Wolves error

BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson has backed goalkeeper Chris Weale to bounce back after his error allowed Wolves to take the lead on Saturday.

Weale, selected in the absense of Adriano Basso, had been in good form coming into the match and had also recevieved the backing of his manager on Friday who felt he was showing many at the club the reason Johnson has given him a chance. However a slight lack on concentration meant Weale allowed Michael Kightly and Wolves to take the lead on Saturday from a free kick.

Basso is expected to be back in contention for tomorrow night's fixture against Plymouth but the City boss backed Weale, saying he will save the club more than he lets them down.

He told the official website: "It was Chris' mistake, he held his hands up to the rest of the boys and he will be as disappointed as anyone.

"Having said that he made two very good saves in the second half, so sometimes that happens. However, it's team performances and it's unfair to single any one person out."
