GARY JOHNSON will be a delighted man this morning as the transfer window finally closed.

The City boss, despite describing the window as 'not benneficial to anyone', completed what he feels will be a key deal on what was the final day of business for English clubs before January.

The deal is believed to be worth around £140,000 to Ebbsfleet who's 7,500 members decided 82.3% in favour of selling the player despite scoring just less than a goal a game in the Blue Square Championship.

Akinde joined up with his team mates for a reserve game last night and will now be training hard to build his fitness and break into the City squad. The South African born strikers former club said yesterday they rejected bids from two League One clubs for the player during the summer but were happy for the teeneger to move to the Championship.

Gary Johnson has yet to give the media a full briefing about Akinde following his signing but told the official website this morning that he believes the 19-year-old will be a big success. He said: "It's a big step for John, but he is a big lad with bags of pace and we feel he can become a Championship player.

"He's only 19, and he's a type of player we hadn't got. I wanted to have five strikers with different attributes and he's another club for our golf bag."
