DELIGHTED after his side won a well deserved three points yesterday, Bristol City manager Gary Johnson defended his counterpart Chris Coleman after he was banished to the dugout for his behaviour on the touchline in the first half.

Coleman is likely to be summoned by the FA and will likely be banned from the next three matches and hit with a hefty fine but Gary Johnson defended Coleman despite his frustrating afternoon. He told The People: "Chris is a very passionate fella. I like him a lot. He only threw a waterbottle down - he didn't throw it at anyone, although he did it in an agressive way."

Johnson also defended referee Phil Dowd who Coleman's tirade was aimed at saying: "For the last couple of years I have thought the standard of refereeing was getting better. The referee was good, maybe the home crowd are not going to think that but if you analyse the major incidents then I think he got most right."
