Johnson hails Akinde effort

GARY Johnson's squad could be boosted this week by inclusion of two 'new signings'.

The City manager spoke this afternoon about his squad and after not ruling out Marvin Elliott making a comeback to the Bristol squad for their trip to Cardiff City on Saturday the manager spoke at his delight at the way deadline day signing John Akinde was progressing.

When he signed for a club a couple of weeks ago, Johnson said he would not rush Akinde after he did not complete a full pre-season programme to injury but now the City manager has praised the striker for the way he has trained with his new team mates.

He told the official website: "Whether he gets his chance in the next couple of weeks or not, I can't say. He's got to earn his chance and then take it.

Johnson did however sound a note of caution about the former Ebbsfleet striker,

"There are a few things he's got to improve on, but we knew that anyway," said Johnson. "He's still got stars in his eyes a little, mainly when he heads it! There are a few things he's very good at too and we'll need those things sooner rather than later."
