NICKY Maynard was on the scoresheet yesterday to score his first competetive goal for Bristol City and despite his side being pegged back in the second period, Gary Johnson revealed his 'happyness' at the striker opening his account.

Johnson had vigorously backed Maynard after he failed to take one of several decent chances which fell his way but was delighted that his record signing was able to hit the back of the net. He said: "I'm pleased for Nicky Maynard, but I wish his goal had been the winner."

"I said he would get off the mark and I stand by the fact that he will get twenty goals for us this season. He's a good player and he knows where the goal is"
