Johnson happy to settle for a point

GARY Johnson admitted that his Bristol City side were a touch fortunate to leave Oakwell with a point on Saturday.

Barnsley had plenty of oppertunities during the game on Saturday and in his press conference the City manager was fairly phylosopical about the game insisting that his side were pleased with securing a point.

Gary Johnson's men, off the back of a win last Saturday travelled to Oakwell full of optimism that a win could take them into the top four on goal difference but Simon Davey's relegation threatened team made their visitors work to earn a point creating several oppertunities which last season's FA Cup finalists will have been disappointed not to take.

Striker Iain Hume had the best chance of the game when he was through one-on-one but was denied by a fine save from keeper Adriano Basso and the home side also created good chances through Jon Macken and Jamal Campbell-Ryce.

City had their share of oppertunities with Gavin Williams and Marvin Elliott both going close.

At the end of the game Gary Johnson told the BBC he was satisfied with the result despite his team looking slightly below-par,

"I thought they got into our penalty area more than we got into theirs. They are a decent team here, I know they are down the bottom, but in the end we are happy."

With a touch week of fixtures ahead with his side facing Sheffield United before Reading visit Ashton Gate on saturday, Johnson chose to focus on the positive of the result which saw his side improve their defensive record and put themselves back in the top six. He said,

"We had to defend free-kicks and corners and we did that quite well today. It is a sixth clean sheet in 13 games so we have positives to take home."
