Johnson had to withdraw striker Nicky Maynard from the action at the weekend, while Marvin Elliott and Michael McIndoe also missed out in the 2-2 draw with Plymouth.

Yesterday afternoon Johnson confirmed he expected several players to rejoin the squad and aside from Steve Brooker and young Christian Ribero the City manager was able to witness all his first team squad in a training session this afternoon.

Louis Carey was one of four players who failed a post-match fitness test at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night but he is expected to be available for selection in Saturday's game at Bramall Lane.

Johnson recieved another boost this morning as Jamie McCombe returned to full training, though the City bsos does not expect him to be available on Saturday. He told the official website: "Jamie will take a little while to get back up to match sharpness, as today was on his first contact training session. He headed the ball okay, although we haven't got anyone of his size to be able to jump and cause him any problems!

"Jamie will probably play against Swansea in the reserves next week."
