THERE may not have been too many fantastic performances to celebrate for Bristol City recently, but they went some way to getting themselves out of an inconsistent rut by continuing their excellent away form with a 1-0 win at Southampton on Saturday.

After their defeat to Reading last weekend the City boss Gary Johnson had called for his players to react, and a week of hard work in training paid off on the field as Lee Johnson scored the only goal at St Mary's to propel City back into the top half of the table.

"It was a fantastic goal to win the game."

"I thought all the boys worked their socks off,"
Johnson told the BBC,

"Credit to the character to comeback from last week's disappointment.

"Southampton were high in confidence after scoring three in the second half to win at Preston last week.

"But we've done a lot of work this week, said a lot of words on and off the pitch and it's brought them out of the shells in adversity again."
