BRISTOL City were boosted this afternoon by a new signing.

With things going well on the pitch it wasn't a new player who was making a commitment to the club but Robins manager Gary Johnson who put pen to paper on a new five-year deal.

Ahead of the game with Wolves this weekend the City boss described himself as 'very happy' to agree an extended deal which could keep him as City manager until 2013. Johnson also dscribed himself as 'very pleased' with the way things are going and said there will be 'more to come.'

In an announcement on the official website, Johnson said: "I'm very happy to have signed this new deal.

"The chairman sat down with me over the summer and in the early parts of this season to explain his ambitions for the club. I was very impressed and I want to be part of that."

Johnson continued to say that despite achieving a playoff position last season his aim is to take City to the highest level,

"I've been here three seasons now and we've already made big strides both on and off the pitch. The club wants continuity and it's an honour for me to be asked to be part of that."

The manager went on to say,

"I've got fantastic staff and it would be good to keep that together. The chairman and the board (of directors) have been very understanding to my demands and in football that is a big bonus."
