GARY Johnson was notably delighted with the way his team performed yesterday as they swept Doncaster Rovers to one side.

The City boss had asked for his team to rebound immediately from their defeat by Birmingham on Saturday and the City boss got his wish with a polished performance. Gary had plenty to say about his teams victory and here are a few notes from his post-match press conference:

On his delight at an immediate response to defeat against Birmingham: "To get four goals in the the Championship is a good return against anyone. We knew that after not picking up any points against Birmingham this was quite a big game and the lads rose to it."

On what he said and did at half time: "They [had a good first half] but we just couldn't get a finish, even though we had three or four good chances.

"At half-time we knew Bradley (Orr) was on a thin line with the referee [due to his booking] and we didn't want to go down to ten men because of a mistimed tackle or something said out of place.

"We needed eleven men on the pitch because we felt if we created the same amount of chances we would get a couple and, thank God, we got four and it worked for us, the lads rose to it and, right from the first minute of the second half, we got ourselves in the game."

On Michael McIndoe: 'We had two good goals from Macca - there was obviously a lot of pressure on him with the penalty at 0-0, and he got one other."

On other impressive performances: "Nicky got his goal which was terrific and I thought Dele worked hard.

"It was typical Marvin, wasn't it. He chased down a ball and got there first. Then Nicky - who I asked at half-time to be more on the move - got on the move and got his penalty.

"Ivan is a good athlete. He is a bit frustrated he hasn't been playing but Brian Wilson came in early in the season and did very well and kept him out of the team - and Brian will be fit Monday."

On Darren Byfield's return: "It was all in the media about Darren in the lead up to the game but I've got confidence in the lads we have here.

"I'll say good luck to Darren when I see him - and to Adam Lockwood, who was a good professional for me at Yeovil - but they were in the opposition and I'm pleased to say it was our men who made the headlines."
