Johnson unhappy with Robins commitment

BRISTOL City manager Gary Johnson was left reeling after his side barely turned up on Saturday as they lost their five match unbeaten run in a 4-1 defeat to Reading.

Reading, who had previously been beaten by Burnley, picked up only their second away win of the season in emphatic fashion with Kevin Doyle, Noel Hunt and Kalifa Cisse putting the result beyond doubt within the hour. Stern John scored his first goal in City colours, but the Trinidad strikers effort was nothing more than a consolation for the Robins who slipped to 11th as a result of the defeat.

Needless to say Gary Johnson was pulling no punches about his sides performance after the game. He told the BBC,

"We were weak defensively and it was like a knife through butter at times."

Although scathing of his sides performance he singled out Stern John for special praise but admitted that many of his players had performed below-par,

"Every player, apart from Stern John, had an off-day but you have to give Reading credit, they looked a very effective outfit."

The City manager admitted that his side are in need of an immediate response and called on his team to improve or miss out on the oppertunity to emulate last season's performance,

"We were not angry or committed enough and that has to change before we go to Southampton next week."
