Kightly backs Wolves for promotion

AHEAD of his team's match against Bristol City on Saturday, midfielder Michael Kightly has outlined the reasons he thinks his side have what it takes to get promotion.

While weekend opponents Bristol City impressed in their run to the play-offs last season, a stuttering campaign in 2007-8 left Wolves with a mountain to climb as they tried to get into the top six. This time around however Kightly's men are top of the pile, while some inconsistent form from City has left them in sixth place.

The two sides meet at the weekend, presumably looking to get a distinct psychological advantage as the Championship race hots up.

The England U-21 international believes that a change of mentality has led to a significant improvement,

"The gaffer's mentality is that he wants us to be confident but he wants us to dig in and fight," he told the official website, "So it's down to the gaffer signing players with that attitude.

"We haven't got one big-time Charlie in our squad and everyone wants us to win whether they're on the bench or in the stand."

In the build-up to the Bristol City game Kightly says his team will face a difficult task but believes they have what it takes to continue their great start to the season. He continued: "Teams are going to come to Molineux to try to frustrate us but the home crowd is like a twelfth man and hopefully they will turn up in their numbers because we're top of the league.

"Hopefully it will be a sell-out and we can reward them with a win against Bristol City.

"We're playing well and we know the hard thing to do is keep that going but that's what we aim to do."
