Lansdown Lauds Stadium News

The Robins had plans for a new purpose-built arena in the Ashton Vale region of the city `approved in principal' in November and they were given the green light at a meeting of Bristol City Council on Wednesday night after the club responded to a number of questions over the stadium's viability.

Lansdown was delighted with the outcome of the meeting and stressed the importance of the move going ahead.

It's very pleasing. We didn't take anything for granted but the team did well and the result was the right one," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"The need for the stadium is two-fold. The catchment area of Bristol is huge but we're not attracting them to our football club in the city because we don't have the facilities.

"The stadium will allow us to attract more people in and they will come to a new stadium. It also allows the club to be sustainable and allow it to stand on its own feet."
