"I think we'd just had an appeal turned down and two halves made a whole one if you like. I think it hit the lad's hand but I'll have another look on the video.

"We're defending very solidly and if that's the case then one goal is enough. However, for the hearts of the City fans we could do with another goal now and again.

"Brentford were playing four up front come the end and you have to deal with that. I call it Mother in the goal.

"You pretend your mother is in the back of the goal and you have to do all you can to protect her. Mother isn't get hit too often at the moment.

"The fans today were great and the lads need that support at the moment," He said. "They've played a lot of games recently and the noise just gives them that extra lift in the closing stages.

"We were without Steve Brooker and Louis Carey due to injury, while Richard Keogh has been ill.

"Skusey has been playing with a calf problem, while Nobes was ill at Chesterfield in midweek. We asked both to give us an hour and they were brilliant."

"Not too much in it, but I said the same last week. I keep talking about fine lines but the fine line is we are getting beat every week. The performance wasn't too bad but we can't keep saying we were unlucky or it was the referee's decisions; we keep getting beat and we need to change it.

I'm never in any doubt about the character of the side. After a horrendous start we fought our way back into the game and they were hanging on towards the end.

"If the referee's going to give a penalty every time it hits someone on the hand in the box then fair play to him. He said to us at half time that the shot was on target so he had to give it. He said Kev didn't mean to put his hand up… and I can't understand it. Because the shot was on target it had to be a penalty. Well that must be a new rule."
