"It was thirty seconds of madness that killed us. We fell asleep.

"In the second half we were found wanting a little bit when it was just as easy to slide it in the back of the net," said Johnson. "Credit Bradford, they got back and defended stoutly but I still think we could have had three or four goals."

"We'll put a lot of teams on the back foot playing like that, as we try to play the game with two wide men and that is exciting," he told the Telegraph & Argus.

"Bristol City, like Nottingham Forest, are a side who will be up there but we've also got ability in our side and our attacking play will get better.

"You've got to remember that five of those players came in within the last week of pre-season, so I'm delighted for them.

"To find yourselves a goal down so early and then come back shows real character. We had to be patient but we created chances even before our first goal and overall the first-half performance was very good."
