"I had to get permission from the board of directors to play Scott. But he has taken his punishment and I felt he should be involved.

"It's been a very tough week and the most important thing was that we went out and gave a performance that reflected credit on Bristol City Football Club.

"Don't forget we won despite having 10 men for 45 minutes at Northampton in midweek and there were some pretty tired legs out there. I'm proud of the players."

"What happened during the week caused City to react positively and in the first half we lacked self-belief and looked lethargic.

"Michel Kuipers kept us in the game with some outstanding saves, although we improved in the second half and created more chances.

"We are at a development stage with a lot of young players coming through and this time we didn't have enough goal threat."
