Maynard was not able to score on his league debut but remains 'confident'.
DESPITE not scoring on his league debut for Bristol City, striker Nicky Maynard refused to feel pressured into netting his first goal in a hurry to justify his transfer fee.

The striker signed from Crewe last week and scored a hat-trick in his first non competetive game against Royal Antwerp. The 21-year-old started for City yesterday but was not able to find the target despite several chances falling his way.

The striker said: "It was nice to get three points and in the end the team won which is all that matters."

"Personally I feel disapointment because I could have scored, paticularily the header."

Maynard had an impressive scoring record for Crewe and said: "I've been brought into score goals and the gaffer knows I can. I don't feel as if the transfer fee is 'looming over me' or anything like that, I have belief in my own ability and pressure isn't something I feel is going to take me out of my rhythm."

Gary Johnson backed his strikers comments saying: "Nicky is obviously happy to be on the winning side but as a young lad he wants to score as many as he can and we understand that."

"It's a bit much after one game to be talking about a crisis of confidence."
