McCarthy backs strike duo

FACING the visit of Bristol City this weekend, Mick McCarthy has admitted he was disappointed by the football league's decision not to rescind the red card of his striker.

The Scottish striker was involved in a clash with Preston defender Sean St. Ledger at the weekend and even though his opponent defended him at a Football League hearing, Iwelumo had his appeal turned down and will miss the game between Bristol City and Wolves at the weekend.

Although McCarthy admits that the decision is 'unfortunate' as his team will miss their top scorer, and on form striker who scored a hat-trick before being dismissed, the Yorkshire man says it is an oppertunity for others to step in. He told the club's official website: "My preferred choice so far has been Chris (Iwelumo) and Sylvan (Ebanks-Blake) but Andy Keogh hasn't been dropped and neither has Sam Vokes.

"Keogh deserved to go on when he did at Preston because he was absolutely brilliant, creating two goals for us.

"Neither of them have been dropped because they haven't been playing badly - it's just a preferred choice at the moment. That's why when people ask what's your best team? I tell them where to go because I don't have a best team."
